The body needs balance of the three macronutrients: carbohydrates, protein and fat.
Fat is probably the crucial element for hormonal balance. For years, there were claims that cholesterol and saturated fat are bad – but they were not true: we need healthy fat in our body to maintain proper hormonal function. Hormones are produced with fatty acids and cholesterol, meaning that if we’re missing them, hormone issues will occur. Fat is needed for the body to rebuild cells and stabilize hormones. This is especially important for women.
What to eat to achieve hormonal balance?Your meals should be based on protein, healthy fats, vegetables rich in antioxidants and healing herbs will help your body as well. Choose one food from each category:
Soaked or sprouted nuts; beans; seeds; quinoa; lentils; organic pasture raised chicken, turkey, beef, bison, elk; fish caught in the wild.
Hormone balancing healthy fats
These healthy fats include coconut oil and coconut products in general. Coconut oil contains lauric acid, which heals the skin and is beneficial for hormonal production. It can also eliminate bad bacteria and viruses, and provides us with energy. It boosts metabolism and is easy to digest.
Avocados should also be on your list. This fruit helps our body absorb and use nutrients and is full of fibers, potassium, magnesium, vitamin E, vitamin B and folic acid. All of these nutrients are crucial for a good hormonal balance.
Raw butter is a rich source of fat soluble vitamins A, D, E and K2. These are the key building blocks for hormonal production. Butter consists of short and medium-chain fatty acids, which provide support for the immune system, boost metabolism and have anti-microbial properties.
Egg yolks should also be included in your diet because they are full of vitamins and minerals, which include vitamins A, D, E, B2, B6 and B9, phosphorus, potassium and chlorine. All these nutrients contribute to a healthy reproductive system, healthy skin and most of all, hormonal balance. The chlorine and iodine make egg yolks a crucial food for healthy thyroid hormones.
You can eat a lot of soaked nuts and seeds, as well as olives and olive oil, fermented cod liver oil, hemp seed oil, flax seed oil and raw cultured dairy products.
Vegetables rich in antioxidants
Look for anything with a dark green color, like asparagus, broccoli, spinach, collard greens, cabbage, cucumbers, kale, etc. You should eat more brightly colored vegetables too like green, red, yellow or orange bell peppers, red cabbage, red and white onions and tomatoes and carrots.
The starchy vegetables should be included in your diet as well: sweet potatoes, spaghetti squash, yucca, beets, artichokes, turnips, etc.
Healing spices and herbs
These herbs and spices will help the body overall. They include cinnamon, turmeric, cayenne, cumin, garlic and ginger.
Hormonal balance can only be achieved through the nutrients the body requires. Besides, you will have glowing skin, stable mood, improved fertility and constant energy. When given the nutrients it needs, the body can heal and be in balance.
