The lymph nodes are actually an important part of the lymphatic and immune system and they help in the fight against various infections and diseases. They are quite small and they transfer the fluids, nutrients and waste throughout the blood and tissues. They don’t cause pain and sometimes you cannot notice them.

Swollen lymph nodes can be as large as a pea or as a cherry. They can be enlarged but they are considered to be normal if they are less than one centimeter large. But when they become swollen they become two to three times larger than normal and you can feel them.
