These tiny creatures like to crawl around, and it’s almost impossible to get them out of the house. They are all over it. Well, the good news is, you can use essential oils and some vinegar to repel ants. For good.

The power of essential oils

Ants first send their scouts, and follow their pheromone scent trails to get to the spot. Some essential oils are strong enough to disrupt the scent trail, leaving ants confused and dazzled.

The market offers pesticides that destroy the ants’ exoskeleton, but you don’t want to use these around the house, especially if you have children or pets. Essential oils have the same effect, but they are safe for use.

Natural ant repellents

You can use many different products to repel uninvited guests. Peppermint oil is a common ingredient in hair care products, and it’s usually added to store-bought mouthwash. Its minty scent disrupts ants’ scent trail which is why you should use it to repel them.

You can also use clove oil. Eugenol in clove essential oil destroys ants on contact, and its scent will repel any remaining ant. Orange and lemon essential oils have d-Limonene, and it’s toxic to these crawling creatures.

The good ol’ vinegar

Vinegar is probably the most common cleaning product, and ants hate its smell. It disrupts their trail, and you can just spray it on the ants and cover any affected areas.

Homemade ant repellent spray

You will need:

  • 30 drops peppermint essential oil
  • 10 drops clove essential oil
  • 15 drops orange essential oil
  • ½ cup white vinegar
  • ½ cup water

Get yourself an 8-ounce glass spray bottle, and let’s make your ant repellent!

Add the ingredients to the spray bottle, and shake well. Spray pretty much every surface ants crawl on. You can use it on doorways, window sills, corners, etc.

Mist again if you see any ants walking around your home. You can also spray cotton balls and scatter them around the home.

The best part about this product is that it’s completely safe, and you won’t have to worry about killing innocent ants. This spray will repel them naturally. Well, they may be mad at you, but you will get over it.
